Muskegon Charter Township Board Meeting

August 18, 2008 Meeting Highlights

The Board accepted the resignation of Supervisor Pat Jordan effective August 31st.
Richard Nolan will run against Dave Kieft Jr. on the Nov. 4 general election ballot for the supervisor position.

Eastside Extravaganza founder Carole Nichols announced the closing of the event. The event this year raised more than $44,000. The event donated $1,300 to the police department, $1,600 to the fire department, and $35,000 to the public works department for purchase of small children's toys and play equipment for the parks. Over the many years of the Eastside Extravaganza it's proceeds have funded a skate park and hockey rink, built a pavilion, purchased picnic tables for all public parks in East Muskegon and, play equipment for children. It will be greatly missed not only by the kids but by OV graduates that used the event for an annual meeting place to renew friendships and have reunions. The board voted unanimously to have a plaque of appreciation made and presented to Carole Nichols and her husband Jerry, the co-creators of the event, but even this small gesture can't thank them enough for the years of fun and the generous donations they have made. Thank you to all who have made this event such fun.

The Police Department has promoted Detective Sanford to Sargent. We are lucky to have such dedicated and qualified officers protecting our citizens. Congratulation Sargent Sanford.

Maintenance and Inspection Department has set a minimum of $35 for a permit fee. Increased gas prices has been a major factor in this small increase.

Request for transfer of Class C Liquor License from Rossi's to Cancun Bar has been tabled for 2 weeks while the transfer and tax requirements are completed.
